The mission of Career Transition For Dancers is to empower current and former professional dancers, as well as their younger counterparts, with the knowledge and skills necessary to clearly define their career possibilities after dance, and to provide the resources to help make these possibilities a reality.
CTFD believes that dancers must take control of their own transition and of their own lives. CTFD helps dancers determine for themselves what they need to take the next step, and then helps them obtain what they need to move forward. Making services dancer-driven empowers dancers to be in charge of their careers beyond dance.
With offices in New York City and Los Angeles, CTFD offers services free of charge to dancers from all disciplines by virtue of their professional employment history. In addition to one-on-one career-counseling, CTFD offers a comprehensive range of related services including: The Caroline H. Newhouse Scholarship Fund, which assists dancers in meeting their educational and retraining needs; Career Conversations, a series of seminars and workshops on career planning topics;
CareerLine, a nationwide toll-free career-counseling and referral hotline for dancers outside our immediate metropolitan service areas; the National Networking Directory, which offers peer support and the benefit of professional mentoring from those who have successfully moved on to new careers; the National Outreach Project, which takes CTFD and its services "on the road;" video libraries, which make available for viewing CTFD workshops, seminars and Career Conversations; and resource centers in New York City and Los Angeles, comprised of reference guides, periodicals, and other materials.
