Dick Andros Memorial SRO – JUST as he planned it!

Marvin Schoenberg, welcoming students and friends to Dick’s Memorial Service

"He played to a packed house – again, just as he planned it years ago." said his former partner, Marvin Schoenberg.  Dick left specific instructions about how everything should be done.  Marvin, however, decided on the Greek motif, and Dancers Over 40 helped out by supplying the blue and white flower decorations around the room – and also brought home-made Greek butter cookies, koulouria, made by DO40 President, John Sefakis.

Many DO40 members were in attendance, including Dick Korthaze, Kathryn Sullivan, Elaine Pallie Brodsky (above), and even a lapsed one, Frances Patrelle (below), who offered to rejoin soon!  Marvin opened up the floor to anyone who wished to speak, and there were MANY.  Elaine spoke, as did Frances and Julia Dubno, who runs Ballet Academy East, where the event was held.  Many, many former students spoke about Dick’s largess – and how he nurtured them from adolescent to teen to adult.          

The room was filled not only with flowers and food, but “Androsisms” (typed and pasted on the walls), his incredibly popular sayings that he would always impart to his students.  And the pictures of Dick in his prime!  What a hottie! 

DO40 was very glad to help in any way we could for this event.  Dick was the former editor of the DO40 Newsletter, and was always a voice to be reckoned with at membership meetings! 

We’re sure Dick is looking down from Mt. Olympus, with Athena and Zeus, smiling.
